Shining Star Susanne Waddell

Susanne Waddell, a paraprofessional at Seitz Elementary, was one of six Shining Stars for the month of April 2017. Geary County Schools USD 475 awards the Shining Star several times a year to individuals who exceed expectations in the areas of service to the district, professional achievement, community service, and impact on the perception of the district.

Susanne has a deep love for her role in the classroom and is intrinsically motivated to help the teachers to provide the best learning experience for the students. The students in the class respect and rely on her as if she were a second teacher.

Teaching is a profession that Susanne hopes to pursue one day and teachers can see that reflected in the teamwork she displays. She is constantly exploring new ways to assist in student learning. When a new method is a success, Susanne is proactive in adding it to her repertoire of teaching tools in order to increase her ability to assist in the classroom.

This year, Susanne became a part of “Girls on the Run,” acting as a coach and role model for the girls at Seitz Elementary she encourages students to take part in this after-school program. She is also active in Booster Club and after school activities over the past years. She takes the initiative to invest her time beyond her work days because she knows that making a difference in the students’ lives means becoming a steady fixture in their environment.

When I think about Geary COunty Schools, I think about people working hard, working smart and working together to achieve a common goal. Susanne is always willing to lend a helping hand and sees all jobs as vital to our team goal. Her positive attitude reflects on the students she works with and creates a warm, welcoming, and caring culture. -Seitz Elementary
