Students at Seitz Elementary participated in a Summer STEM event last week. The students chose their favorite novels and created a virtual game through code. According to teacher Grant Stucky, the students focused on setting and character and did all their own research. They started with storyboards involving a lot of detail and then moved on to creating the game. To create the virtual video game, students coded with the program Scratch. The games were amazing and it was obvious the students put a lot of effort into them. The coded games were also published online where they were able to receive comments and feedback.

“The kids love games and actually want to create games- and now they can do that! They have all the tools they need and it’s fun to help them get there.” -Grant Stucky, 5th grade teacher at Westwood

“My video game only took a few days to make. My favorite part was working on the character’s costumes.” -Oliver, 4th grade student
